Prohibited areas

Local Laws and council regulations specify areas prohibiting dogs due to the sensitivity of the area.

Bathing reserve

Under council's Local Law No. 2 (Animal Management) 2011, dogs are prohibited in the following areas:

  • national parks
  • beaches (unless there are signs that say dogs can be exercised or are allowed there at certain times of the day)
  • all coastal dunes
  • all bathing reserves, unless otherwise signed
  • within five metres of a children’s playground or BBQ facilities
  • any areas specifically signed to exclude animals.

Council regulations also specify areas prohibiting dogs due to the sensitivity of the area.
