What is domestic and family violence?
Understanding and identifying domestic and family violence.
Nobody deserves violence and you have the right to be safe.
Domestic and family violence:
- can happen to anyone, in any community, in all cultures, to young and old
- does not always involve physical violence
- is abusive behaviour used by one person to exert power and control over another person
- is usually an ongoing pattern of behaviour aimed at controlling a partner (also known as coercive control)
- includes a wide variety of behaviours including social, financial, psychological and technology-facilitated abuse.
