Mooloolaba Coastal Hazard Adaptation Precinct Planning - Investigation
Sunshine Coast Council is investigating coastal hazard adaptation at Mooloolaba.
We are looking at ways to help protect Mooloolaba and reduce the risk of coastal hazards and flooding now and into the future.
Our community is already experiencing adverse impacts from coastal hazards such as nuisance flooding from high tides and localised rainfall. Mooloolaba is integral to our place identity and a healthy coastal environment along the Sunshine Coast underpins population growth and tourism and ultimately the regional economy. In this context, coastal hazard management and adaptation is critical to future economic growth and community resilience.
This study is specifically looking at how we can build stronger and more resilient public assets and infrastructure which in turn help to reduce these risks for the local community.
Find out more on some of the approaches we will investigate at Mooloolaba in Information Sheet: Coastal Hazard Adaptation Precinct Planning Investigation - Mooloolaba.
Investigation area
The Mooloolaba investigation will explore what adaptation options could work in this area which extends from Alexandra Headland to Mooloolaba Beach and Buddina, inland to Sunshine Motorway.
Funding
Council has been successful in obtaining funding from the Australian Government to undertake investigations at Mooloolaba.
Community engagement opportunities
We value our community’s knowledge and input into these investigations. There will be multiple opportunities for our community and key stakeholders to be involved throughout the project.
Protecting the local values and character at Mooloolaba are critical criteria that will be considered as we assess possible infrastructure-based mitigation options.
We need your input and invite you to have your say on existing values within Mooloolaba. Please tell us what is important to you by visiting Have Your Say Sunshine Coast to share your feedback by November 25, 2024.
