The aim of this report is to understand:

  • their significance to the economy
  • the nature of their employment
  • their income
  • commuting behaviours
  • housing conditions.

This report includes a projection of future trends. This will highlight future housing needs and economic importance.

In this report key workers have been defined using the AHURI report “Housing Key Workers: Scoping Challenges, Aspirations and Policy Response for Australian Cities.” The definition for our region includes a range of occupations. These are crucial for supporting local residents and the economy. They include:

  • low-income occupations
  • occupations with economic significance
  • occupations that require physical presence on-site.

This report provides insights to guide Council’s decision making in relation to actions identified in the Sunshine Coast Housing and Homelessness Action Plan 2023.
